A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE KENMORE TEACHERS FEDERAL CREDIT UNION

In 2008, the Kenmore Teachers Federal Credit Union celebrates our 73rd anniversary. During these years we have progressed from a simple savings and loan credit union to one that provides a full spectrum of financial services. This credit union was organized in 1935 by a group of teachers who had the vision and the foresight to lay the foundation for what we have today. The first credit union “office” was a box in a teacher’s desk drawer. Volunteer tellers in each building handled deposits and hand posted individual passbooks. Withdrawals were requested in advance and a check was sent. Many years of hard work by devoted volunteers paved the way for our first full time employee in 1987.

We’ve come very far since our humble beginnings. From 1935 to 1995, the credit union office had been located in just four school buildings. In 1995, we reached a major milestone by purchasing our own building. As of March 2005, we have assets of $18.9 million and a membership of over 3300. Our competent staff handles over 6600 accounts. Use of current-day technology will facilitate growth and increased member service.

Our Mission Statement says it all:

Through a combined effort of management and membership, provide an expanding range of financial services that are responsive to member needs, while safeguarding assets and maintaining financial security...
Our credit union is always looking to the future. We will continue to be progressive in our delivery of financial products to our membership. If you have any questions or would like additional information, please contact the credit union office.
